On the 7th of December, our digital marketing apprentice Aidan was invited back to the school he attended, the Silverstone UTC.
Aidan was invited back to take part in a future careers day for the Year 11 students at the school, all with the aim to help those students who are struggling to find what they want to do for a career.
Aidan went to talk about his experiences in the work place, his journey from the UTC to where he is now and how his school life prepared him for a full-time placement.
He also spoke about his journey through Media A-Level, how that led him to find the career that he wanted and about the various interviews he had and what he took from them.
To give the students some insight into what an interview for a digital marketing role would be like, Aidan created a mock interview task for the students to work on. He also gave some of the students an opportunity to answer some typical interview questions, such as “Where do you see yourself in 5/10 years?” or “What do you think your personal strengths and weaknesses are?”
For the mock interview task, Aidan gave the students a boxx branded leaflet and the students were tasked with coming up with some ideas on how to improve the piece, based on their knowledge of our business.
The students had a keen eye for detail and a great understanding of our business – it’s fair to say that there were some future digital marketeers in the group!

Going back to my previous school to help those students who need some guidance was very fulfilling. I was in a lot of those students positions in Year 11, struggling to find what I wanted to do and worrying about what the workplace would be like after I left school. Having talks with people from the industries I liked definitely helped me find my feet so I hope that I could do the same for some of the students I met.
It was also a great experience to go back to the UTC as the school was such a wonderful environment to be in for me – all of the teachers and staff at the school were of such great help to me over the 4 years I was there, so I wanted to go in and support the school as a way of giving back!
